Wedding Trends – One Long Table for All Guests

When you think of a sit-down dinner set-up at an event, you think of a bunch of round tables, right? Well, think again!

I absolutely love the idea of using long, rectangular tables instead of rounds. When you’re at a round table, it’s so hard to speak to those across the way. With a long table, those on the opposite side are still within arms’ distance and (if the planner did it right), not hiding behind a large floral arrangement.

If you have the space, wouldn’t it look regal to have everyone seated at one long table vs. a bunch? This reminds me of how I picture medieval royalty to have eaten (or at least the guests at Dowtown Abbey.) This is a great option for small weddings or your typical, Saturday night dinner parties.

You could also consider open rectangles, U-shapes, or simply scattering the 8′ tables around the room like you would with rounds.

Table settings would be similar, you would just need different linens. I think this concept could be used in a casual or formal environment, though it will lend an air of sophistication to any event.

What do you think of this trend? Would you use it? Our patio table broke over the winter. We have an octagonal replacement, but I think I may break out my rectangular table at my next party just to see how it goes. Stay tuned!
