Newsflash – Heroes Are People, Too

I was supposed to have another hero to feature in today’s post. She’s a super cool lady with a business in Chicago that has skyrocketed to greatness in the few short years I’ve known her. Way back in October she said she’d be my December feature and would get answers to my interview questions back to me in plenty of time.

I emailed in November to remind her. And then again at the beginning of the month.

I thought maybe she was the type that didn’t respond to frivolous emails and would just send the questions when they were due. But, nope. I got nothing after the initial confirmation.

I spent the weekend feeling slightly perturbed. Don’t go makin’ promises and all that. But then this morning it hit me… She is just a regular woman, too.

She’s got the long list of holiday-related tasks to tackle, the end-of-the-year accounting and new-year-on-the-horizon business forecasting to attend to, a husband and family to enjoy, and god, bless it, some time on the couch doing nothing. We all need that last one. In addition to this, I found out this morning that one of her loved ones got into a bad accident over the weekend, so, of course, her attention is elsewhere.

Instead of taking it personal that this person didn’t make time for me, I realize that she lives a life just like I do. Some days are great, with everything going according to plan and plenty of time for the extracurricular projects. Others, we can barely keep up and do the minimum tasks assigned to us.

So there is still the lesson to be learned even without a specific person example:

Are you the hero, the villain, or the damsel in distress?

Many thoughts go out to J and her family while they recover. Happy thoughts coming your way from your friends in Milwaukee!
