Why I Am Coveting Thy Neighbors Cold Medicine

I am sick.

Sick like a dog.

Sick like a two month old baby who has been to daycare.

Yes, ladies and gents, Eggroll has had her first disease! Hoorah! And with this first congested mess, we have officially ended my streak as the healthiest person in the house.

“OK, whatever,” you say. It’s a small price to pay for an hour or two at the gym for mom time. Normally, I would agree. This stuffiness would go away instantly with one little dose of Sudafed cold medicine.

Alas, as written on Kellymom.com:

“Thomas Hale Ph. D., a renowned breastfeeding pharmacologist (Breastfeeding Pharmacology), notes that “breastfeeding mothers with poor or marginal milk production should be exceedingly cautious in using pseudoephedrine” and that “it is apparent that mothers in late-stage lactation may be more sensitive to pseudoephedrine and have greater loss in milk production” (Medications and Mother’s Milk, 2012 edition).”

Son of a duck.

I would give my right arm for a decongestant, but it looks like it wouldn’t be my right arm. It would be my baby’s food supply.

Drat.

Reason #379 that breastfeeding is overrated.

ACHOO!
