30 Day Challenge Check-In

Yep, April is over already. No, I don’t understand how it went by so fast either. There’s no way 720 hours have passed since I originally threw out my 30 day challenge to you guys (and myself)! But fight it all we want, it is officially May. How did you do? Did you reach your goal? Or at least made progress? Suffer a set back?

I apologize in advance as this post is a bit self-indulgent, but hey, that’s kinda the point of blogs anyway, right? Let’s just say I’m doing it to spur you on and/or keep myself accountable (and not because my blog prompt stream has run dry.)

In Jeans!!Physically, I did great. I did return to Zumba and got a few weeks of the Couch to 5k running program under my belt. Eggroll and I enjoyed the few nice days we had in April by going for one or two walks each day. I’ve gone to one yoga class a week giving myself plenty of time to work on planks and sstttrrreeetttccchhh. Ah, does that feel nice. The pregnancy weight (and new center of gravity) have done a number on my calves and ankles. I normally don’t like down dog, but now it’s a new happy place. My left knee, which was killing me at the beginning of April now feels great since I’m using it again. The scale tells me I’ve lost three-ish pounds and I zipped myself up in pants with buttons for the first time since last summer. YAH!

Also, I did do my a full sit-up on April 5th. Look out Pilates Teaser, I’m coming for you!!

I bet I would be in even better shape if I got my chocolate habits under control. I started tracking my food via a new app, Two Grand. I hoped that would be the clincher. In the past, when I’ve tracked my food I haven’t had to track calories or points. It was simply a matter of the guilt associated with having to write down the bad stuff that gave me pause. That has kind of proven true here, but you know what… I really don’t care that much. As long as I’m able to run a little more each week and feel more and more comfortable back in normal female human clothes, the mini peanut butter cups from Trader Joe’s are my friends.

I trained for and started teaching my new class, Barre Burner, this month, plus I subbed a couple of classes, including a prenatal yoga class. Boy, does it feel great to be back in front of a classroom. I may take back my Friday morning pilates class in the near future and I’m really excited that a new class I put together has been accepted to start this summer! Stay tuned for more information!!

I’m meeting with my manager at the North Shore WAC next week to talk about one-on-one yoga and pilates training. I’d like to start doing this in the summer, so the more classes I can teach, the more potential clients I can woo. I’m kind of embarrassed that with all of my pilates teaching, I’ve only done mat classes and don’t have any formal training (beyond what the YMCA and WAC provides). I’ve never been on the reformer, let alone coached on it. Looks like I have my next training picked out for me.

Quit slackin' and make shit happen! My writing hasn’t been that great this month as I try to learn this new schedule with Eggroll. Just when I’ve figured out where to carve out Maggie time, she changes up the plans again. This means I’m writing on the fly which never makes for Pulitzer Prize winning entries to the blog or my journal. I write just to put words on the page, but, as my brother-in-law has suggested, I need to learn how to use my phone or iPad to capture a sentence or two when the moment strikes.

Randy, Malorie and I hosted people at our house for my birthday. It was so much fun having all those people in my house! Like Ina Garten or Hanzel and Gretel’s witch, I am at my most happy when I’m offering food and drink to guests in my home. I get to experiment with new recipes and have a reason to clean the house cuz Lord knows it’s not happening otherwise! It helps that my friends contribute, too. I don’t think I actually did a lot that night now that I think of it. Or maybe I did but just enjoyed my first margarita since June a little too much.

Could I have done better in April? Perhaps. Did I do enough? You bet. Besides the fact that I still haven’t finished cleaning out my office (a project I’ve been working on since January), I think everything else is moving forward. Might be moving at a snail’s pace, but at least it ain’t backwards!

So report in, friends! How did you do!?

  1. I started going to the gym again, April 1. But the real progress has been made in terms of nutrition. I use the myFitnesspal App. Like yours I enter everything I eat. And let me say I are horribly for years until one day in Feb I stepped on the scale and saw 262.2 lbs glaring back at me. So, Feb was a wake up call. Not because I want to be vain or feel like a college kid again in the looks dept, but because I want to be able to do things I know I can still do without feeling pathetic afterwards with labored breath.

Good luck to your continued health. I know it’s a long road, but the journey is part of the fun.

    • Just today I had another friend recommend My Fitness Pal. It must be a good one! You were doing so much running before. Are you trying to do that again, Matt? Good luck to you as well. I know you’ve got this!!

  2. Oh Maggie, I would like to say I got back on the workout wagon full force, but that would be a lie:( I tried on some old work clothes yesterday in preparation for a tradeshow this weekend, they were TIGHT. I went out shopping, got more disgusted with myself, and I’m back on the wagon. Maybe I should just go shopping every week and see myself in that awful lighting to get a real wake up call…

    • Maybe the tradeshow will keep you walking enough that next week’s shopping trip would go a little better. 🙂 As Matt says, it’s a journey. We’ll get to where we want to be sooner or later!
