Winter Wedding Favors – Hot Cocoa Mix

When I think winter wedding I go one of two directions: 1. glammed out or 2. warm and snugly. Your wedding will be glamourous no matter what you do, but this favor idea will send everyone home feeling cozy!

To create the hot cocoa favors, you should test out some recipes already out there. Here are a couple that caught my attention:

I created a batch loosely following Alton Brown’s recipe. Instead of the cayenne pepper, I added a big dash (ok, multiple) of cinnamon. My Indonesian Cinnamon from The Spice House in Milwaukee is my new favorite spice. I sampled the recipe using both water and milk. Of course it tasted better when mixed with milk, but it was fine with water.

Next, you cut out squares of fabric that match your event theme. The squares will be roughly 5X5 inches big, but use a jar lid as a guide. Use pinking shears to get a fun edge without trying too hard.

Scoop the mix into 8-oz. jars, top with a lid and a piece of fabric, and screw on a ring. You could add a instructions on a cute card attached by ribbon, but people will know what to do.

The Alton Brown recipe would make around 6 8-oz. jars. So again, I’m making you do math.  Be on the lookout for jam jars and rings at rummage sales and grocery store sales during the canning season. While this won’t be the cheapest favor you’ve ever made, there are deals to be had. And more importantly, your guests are going to love it!

Now excuse me while I go snuggle on the couch with a cup. Ah, the things I do in the name of research for my lovely readers…
