Have your heard about Small Shops United yet? This is a great new community program that offers it’s members great benefits for shopping local. Right now the organization is based in Milwaukee, where you’ll find great deals on restaurants, clothing stores, and services.
I’ve made it a 2012 intention to shop local whenever possible, but that sometimes costs significantly more than the “Made in China” alternative. This program will offer discounts that brings the prices back in line and showcases some great locations!
The program works three different ways.
1. Rewards Program – some locations are offering a “come-back-often” deal that gives you credit for future visits on each purchase. Most participating companies give back about 10%-15%. These credits can only be used in the store where you made the original purchase.
2. Web Promotions – All participating companies will have a customized special promotion available to only to members. As an example, Mark the Occasion Designs is offering 20% off of your first purchase to all Small Shops United members. All you have to do is show me your card.
3. Mobile Promotions – In addition to the regular promotions, you’ll also receive a “gift bag” to use via a smartphone app. Through this app, you’ll be able to pick up to 20 special offers. For 2012, Mark the Occasion Designs is offering $10 off of any purchase of $30 or more.
To get your card, you’ll need to visit any participating merchant and activate it online. Membership fees are very minimal for 2012, so it is in your best interest to give it a shot.
