August has been really busy with new projects. Of course I did some wrist corsages for moms and other lovely ladies, but I also did a collection of flowergirl wands and a beautiful couple of hairpieces. Finally…a way to use the gorgeous feather flowers! This was definitely a month to honor the twee-est of the ball – the flowergirl.
I started off the month by sending some bobby pins to High Brow Waxing Salon to be sold in their retail shop. Check out the store for lots of cute gift ideas after you get those eyebrows cleaned up!
Next up came a request for a “white necklace using that shimmery fabric”. That was all the direction I got, which I took into this design. I’ve been looking for an excuse to try this style. I think it’s gorgeous for a semi-formal summer look. What do you think?
And then, of course, we have the popular fabric flower wrist corsages. The first two will be worn by mothers of the bride and groom at a navy and pink themed wedding this September. The second set traveled all the way to the backwoods of Australia for a group of bridesmaids. I also created a wee one for the flowergirl which included a surprise on the fabric – secret sparkles!
I am in love with the trendy ivory and white color pairing for weddings. It’s a great combo that really could work all the way through spring (with celery green accents, no?). It came together best in a set of wands I made for flowergirls. I did four “normal-sized” for the single-digit crowd and a mini version (8″ wand) for a baby. I can’t wait to see pictures from this December wedding!
My next project came from a bride who was struggling to find the perfect accents to her gown. She wanted something traditional, but fun for the ceremony and “something fun and RED” for the reception. I did this simple birdcage veil to match the over-sized feather flower hairpiece as I didn’t want her hair to overshadow the rest of the look.
I thought it best to keep the two pieces separate so she could work into her hairstyle perfectly. Also, this way the feather flower becomes reusable after the wedding! The alligator clip works great on a blazer lapel or clipped on to a purse.
For the reception, I created this sexy little number using ruby-red silk Shantung and a crystal piece from a vintage shoe clip.
Miss T also needed a special gift for a very special lady. Her flowergirl was going to turn the big “1” on the wedding day, so we gave her her own feather flower. I used red elastic lace to create the headband since the little one is still working on the whole growing-some-hair thing.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for September. As much as I’m trying to fight it, Pinterest and the weather is telling me fall is nipping at our heels. Perhaps we’ll see more yarn and quilting fabrics in next month’s project list.
What do you want to see more of?
