So this month’s Small Business 101 post isn’t so much a lesson in owning a business, but a reminder that your hours are different as a small business owner. Some weeks you may find yourself doing accounting work at 7 pm on a Saturday night. Other weeks you’ll duck out around lunch time to start a bachelorette party weekend, like I’m doing today. As of noon, I’ll be out to lunch working on my contributions to the party.
I’ve promised the bride no pictures will be taken (or at least shared with the masses), so I thought I’d share my plans with you now. We’re going to one of my favorite “delightfully tacky” towns full of water parks and fudge shops. Our plan is to hang out on the lake during the days and maybe go out at night (or maybe just hang around the camp fire.) I can’t wait! We’re staying in a big condo, so everyone is contributing towards the rations. Since I have a addiction speciality in the sweets family, I’m focusing my attention there.
I saw this recipe for Dessert Wine Gelees (which actually got me with the comment “because real women are classy when being trashy”) on Pinterest and thought it would be perfect. In fact, the recipe is quite detailed. If I was only making that, then I’d be in. Instead, I thought about what I have on hand and am going to experiment with chocolate covered cherry Jell-O shots with the chocolate vodka I just can’t seem to use. Could be the best thing ever. Could be gross. Stay tuned!
Next up is the Brownie Batter Dip from Something Swanky. If I could marry a blog, it would totally be this one. She talks chocolate just a little bit more than pimping out blogs. Ah, love! I used her Samosa (or Caramel Delitte for you Midwesterners) dip for our Super Bowl party this year. It was a hit. I think our guests would have really liked it had there been much left by the time the party started.Oops.
Anyway, I have high hopes for the brownie version. If nothing else, it gives me the excuse to include strawberries, animal crackers and pretzels (i.e. relatively healthy options) for those watching calories. (I’ll just use a spoon. Thanks.)
Next up are balls of Oreo goodness that have been a fan favorite since high school. A friend would make these every time we had a sleepover or went camping. The recipe is pretty simple – mix room temperature cream cheese with a crushed up bag of Oreos, form into balls and cover with melted white chocolate. The challenge is not eating 14 during the assembly process. Wish me luck.
I’m planning on rice krispy treats in case someone wants a non-chocolate option. Additionally, I promised a baked good for breakfast. I found a really yummy looking savory bread/sandwich/casserole concoction, but may go for a simple cinnamon sugar bites (using canned biscuit or crescent roll dough) instead. What would you prefer after a night of girl talk and sangria?
(And as an added bonus, I feel like we have to do something with the scandalous pictures out this week of Prince Harry. The bride is like me in that she has a “no phallic straws” rule, but I’m thinking the bachelorette gods may strike us down with lightning if we don’t do something with that little gift they gave us. What’s your favorite hen party game?)
