Most brides tend to use their wedding gown as more than just a pretty frock to wear down the aisle and dance the night away. Today, many use them as ways to express their stylish individuality, and this year has seen a lot of new trends take shape in the world of wedding gowns. I always want you to support your local shops when possible, but today I took a closer look at the favorites in wedding dress design at David’s Bridal, proving you can find a beautiful, personal gown anywhere. New Necklines
Strapless used to be the ultimate go-to neckline for the majority of brides over the last few years, but lately dressmakers are seeing illusion necklines take the top spot. Attached to the dress is sheer fabric that veils over exposed skin, offering brides more coverage while still being feminine and sexy. Asymmetrical one-shoulder designs have also risen above strapless in popularity.
Lots of Lace
This trend has taken a page out of the film and celebrity world. Thanks to Princess Kate Middleton and Twilight’s Bella Swan, more modest designs are being jazzed up by an influx of vintage lacy detail. Designers are seeing more and more requests for high-neck gowns with delicate lace panels disguising a low-cut back and for throwback designs from the 1920s and 1930s.
Lace bolero jackets and shrugs are also popular for brides who avoid going sleeveless with a modern, extremely feminine touch.
Ruffles Galore
Ruffles add depth, texture and detail to the skirt of a wedding dress, its fullness making a bride’s waist appear even smaller and securing her place as the center of attention. Mermaid gowns are accentuated by ruffled detailing, while ball gowns and A-line skirts are getting a change-up from the ordinary.
Flower Power
And of course, my favorite – FLOWERS!! Florals are no longer just for spring, and are showing up on everything from fabric patterns and beadwork to embellished hair accessories. Organza gowns are being covered with delicate, all-over prints, floral appliques adorn other dresses, and floral sashes of all colors are livening up even the plainest of silhouettes. Three-dimensional flowers are also a big hit among new brides who prefer texture.
Choosing a wedding gown isn’t all about being trendy; it’s about finding the right one that suits your personality and wedding theme which you’ll be happy to look at in photos for years to come. Which one is your favorite?
