There is a hidden gem in our local backyard, providing ribbon decorations using materials that look beautiful on the package, but can go into the compost heap or recycling bin after the fact. Cream City Ribbon is brilliant!
Eric Crawford, the new owner, contacted me a few weeks ago with an invite to tour their facilities just north of downtown. It was a spry little shop filled with old machines that work like brand new. The machines use 52 strands of cotton yarn to create each 1/2″ ribbon. Crazy. As I mentioned, since it is made from cotton, it can be recycled, but before you get to that point, you’ll notice its much easier to work with than traditional cloth ribbon. It holds it’s shape pretty nicely in bows, curls, or even folds. You can check out tutorials to learn more fancy gift-wrapping techniques.
Cream City Ribbon does have a small shop on-site and online. Additionally, they sell wholesale to a number of retailers across the country, including Crate and Barrel’s holiday line. They can also do custom orders which could be fun for a large wedding or corporate function.
This business hits all of my hot buttons in that it is local, it is eco-friendly, and it definitely contributes to a fun party! Enjoy!
