Crowd-Sourcing a Summer Vacation Road Trip

We’ve hit that point. That point where we JUST CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE. Last night, I about fainted from sweating too much while wrestling with a curtain rod installation. Randy swore more swear words than the grand total of swear words I’ve ever heard out of his mouth while trying to set up a dryer vent through a maze of old pipes. The antiquated air conditioner works great for the first floor, but there was absolutely no air coming upstairs last night, so neither of us slept very well. (At least there was a curtain on a window, so the street light was muted. Cheers to small victories.)

I’m not here to whine. Really I’m not. We knew what we were getting into when we moved in mid-construction mess. We were able to laugh when a water bottle was knocked off the coffee table/kitchen prep station/office desk when Randy threw a toy to Noah last night. We can take a deep breath and shake off the fact that some days I just HAVE to go to Starbucks to work since there is no electricity while they work on it.

I know it’s a super, super rough life we lead. (In case you don’t pick up the inference, I am being completely sarcastic.)

Or any time in July really, but I’d like to plan a little getaway the first weekend in August. We’ve spent all of our fun money on the house, so it would need to be a cost-efficient summer vacation road trip.

I’ve never pictured us as the “up north” kind of people, but perhaps a good book and a lake is what we need? Or maybe now is the time to go to Galena, IL? I’d like to have it just be us – no family nor friends – so Minneapolis is out. Chicago is probably too pricey. Some place with a working oven would be nice. Or at least access to casseroles. (I miss you, casseroles!)

Where do you think we should go for a long weekend away? Any and all options will be entertained.
