Last Minute Hostess Gift – Homemade Dog Treats

You know the story – you’re invited to someone’s house for a big dinner (say, Thanksgiving!) and when you ask what you can bring, they tell you “oh, don’t worry…just bring yourselves!”

If you’re like me, you’re not totally comfortable with this. I mean, they are putting out all the effort to feed and entertain you; you should contribute something, right?

That said, I’ve also been on the other side of this coin and had the menu planned down to the salt and pepper shakers. Had someone brought a side dish, it might have thrown off the whole meal (in my OCD/control freak brain…). You could always bring wine or flowers, but I’ve got a new idea for you. Dog treats!

Yes, that other host you hope to win over also could use a little loving. He or she may be stuck in the extra bedroom during your visit. The least you could do is to leave behind some snacks.

Dough for Homemade Dog Treats

Here’s a quick recipe from Rachel Ray’s magazine for homemade dog treats. I found the recipe to be pretty spot on, though I would definitely use cooking spray on the cookie sheets before baking. I think I have permanent biscuit crust on my sheets now since I didn’t.

My not-picky-in-the-least-bit dog wasn’t 100% excited about his first bite (are any of us when we eat a carrot when expecting chocolate cake?!), but he has since snarfed #2 and 3 without pause.

And with that, let me bid you adieu for a couple of days. I’m going into electronic hibernation over the weekend as I enjoy traditions new and old. Next week we’re going to write about these holiday traditions, so get ready to talk about yours.

Happy Thanksgiving, dear friends!
