Looking at Event Decorations in a New Light

To continue on our “Repurpose and New Purpose” theme this month, I thought you could use some inspiration from the internet on ways to reuse things you may have in your home for your next event. Who knows – the old window, rug, or even items in your recycling bin may be the repurposed centerpiece to your event decorations!

It was this rug that inspired this post. What a great idea!! Lots of great stories have walked over an antique rug, so why not use it as a backdrop for a photobooth and make some more great memories? It’s just a bonus that the older the rug (i.e. pre-1980 pastels and styles), the more beautiful the design.

By now you know I’m not a fan of the traditional guest book. It may look beautiful, but I can guarantee that you will never look at that book again. (And/or you won’t know if that was Uncle Mike or Co-Worker Ike when you look at their scribbles 10 years from now…And who was co-worker Ike anyway? Did I work with him or did you?) Enter in this board game turned guest recorder. With all the different sides to the blocks, this guest book would work for events large and small.

By now you’ve probably seen old window glass used as a seating chart or a frame used to hold photos like in this picture below, but I wanted to share this picture for a few reasons. First off, the window has some character. It had a hook and a wire holder (planter box?) already attached. I love how the designer used those features vs. trying to hide them. Also this scene uses large pieces of wood as decorations. That is a great juxtaposition with the fancy silver tray (which I’m willing to guess is also an antique!). Moral of the story – if you’re creative, you can tie together anything you have!

And finally, my favorite… My favorite to decorate with and my favorite supply to collect – old wine bottles. If you have beautiful glass bottles like this one, you don’t have to do anything more than add a simple bouquet of gorgeous flowers. That said, the world is your oyster if you come armed with paint, Mod Podge, or string.
