Packing for 12 Days in One Carry-on Bag

As you are reading this, I am heading off for our second honeymoon. When Randy and I were talking honeymoons, he wanted Hawaii and I wanted Europe. He said Europe was OK for the honeymoon if we went to Hawaii for our first anniversary. Ok…I guess, if you insist. We’re going to be gone for 12 glorious days! We’ll spend two days in Honolulu on both the front and back end of a seven-day cruise through the islands. I can’t wait.

I’ll be sure to share inspiration pictures upon our return, but thought I’d make today’s post about packing. When you go on your honeymoon or any big trip, it’s become such a hassle to check bags. I try to keep it to a carry-on whenever possible. This trip is a challenge since it’s 12 days, but it was doable since we’re packing for warm weather and casual outings. Our cruise ship doesn’t have a formal night, so no need to even pack heels.

I really did fit all of this into my little suitcase. (Creativity in the actual packing will be a blog post for another day…) Now I just need to figure out what to do with all of my reading material. Oh, I get to read…for fun!

Let’s get to it, shall we?

Day 1-Travel Day

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 1″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03088.jpg[/imageframe] I’m a believe in 1. not looking like a slob on flights and 2. layers when traveling. This outfit covers both. (Bonus-it includes all the clothes that don’t fit in my little bag.)

Day 2-Beach

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 2″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03057.jpg[/imageframe] We’ll be on the quiet side of the island this day, so we plan on driving around to check out the beaches. I’m sure there will be some place lovely for dinner.

Day 3-Boat

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 3″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03065.jpg[/imageframe] We’ll do some more touring around the island this day and then get on our ship. This outfit should take me from car to boat to dinner with no problem.

Day 4-Hiking

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 4″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03070.jpg[/imageframe] We plan on hiking this day and then coming back on board for casual dinner before an early bed time.

Day 5-Birthday!

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 5″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03071.jpg[/imageframe] It’s my birthday! And it will definitely be one to remember. Our plan is to get up REALLY early to drive up to the top of a volcano to watch the sunrise. Rumor has it that it’s very cold up there, so I’ll be wearing all my long-sleeved clothes. That night we’re going to the Benihana-type restaurant on the boat for a birthday dinner. Yum!

Day 6-More

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 6″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03073.jpg[/imageframe] Another day, another beautiful Hawaiian island. Boy, life is rough sometimes. And then other times…not so much.

Day 7-Casual

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 7″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03078.jpg[/imageframe] Casual day. A nap may be on the agenda. Or hitting up the ’50s style hamburger stand for dinner and a malt for dinner that night.

Day 8-Luau

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 8″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03079.jpg[/imageframe] We’re renting a car at this location, so no hiking shoes necessary to explore these beaches. Hitting up a real Hawaiian luau for dinner that night. Hopefully, I’ll get a lai to accessorize this outfit.

Day 9-Last Day

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 9″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03085.jpg[/imageframe] Last full day on the boat. NCL has a “White Party” where black lights decorate the pool area dance floor. I don’t have a white dress, so my tank will be perfect.

Day 10-City

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 10″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03087.jpg[/imageframe]After we leave the cruise boat, we’ll be ready to explore the city. The plan is to explore Honolulu and Pearl Harbor that afternoon.

Day 11-Sloth

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 11″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03092.jpg[/imageframe] Last true day of vacation, so I will be doing nothing more than walking across the street to the beach and finding something to eat. Vacation sloth…dig it.

Day 12-Going Home

[imageframe width=600 height=400 pattern=”1″ align=”left” alt=”Day 12″]http://marktheoccasiondesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/DSC03081.jpg[/imageframe] We leave really early that morning and travel in slow motion. This comfy dress should get me through the day and leave enough space in the suitcase for souvenirs.
