Practice the Life You Wish You Lived – X10 Challenge Week 5

Isn’t this an amazing phrase?

“Practice the life you wish you lived.”

Gosh. How simple, yet so difficult. My yoga instructor shared this phrase while moving us through poses on Sunday. As I struggled through new asanas, it gave me something to focus on. It seemed like an easy mantra to take off the mat, but as soon as I walked out the door, real life presented itself.

My first assignment on my post-class to-do list was to make peanut butter cup dip for a Super Bowl party. As you can imagine, there were lots of opportunity to lick the spoon and do “poison tests” along the way. I got caught up thinking about this phrase, which did make me pause, but did not make me stop. I do not want to live the life where spoons are not licked. I want to live in a world where treats are a pleasure cruise, not a guilt trip!

I licked the spoon.

But only a couple of times and only when I promised myself they would be followed up with an apple. (They were.)

I managed to lose 2.5 pounds this week, bringing us back to an acceptable X minus 2.5, with only 7.5 more pounds to go. Not great for being at the halfway mark, but hey, better than I started. I had a great week of exercise last week and, sigh, once again found those crazy endorphins folks talk about after a particularly hard Fit Club class.

My lesson this week is that I WILL practice the life I wish I lived. I wish I could run farther and look cuter in jeans. I also wish that I savor all the food that enters this body and I don’t deny myself the pleasure of a treat every now and then (heavy on the “now”… and the “then”.) I wish to experience more exercise highs… and more natural highs in general.

What would you do to practice the life you wish you lived?
