Boy, I sure picked a dicey subject to tackle for my last post, huh? I loved the conversation that surrounded my thoughts that being a stay at home mom can be bad for your health. I still stand by this theory, but you’ll notice I changed “is” to “can be”. Those that responded made me realize that what I was doing was listing my fears of what could go wrong with this profession. (Y’all also reminded me that this is a profession. I’d take a stay at home mom to be my project manager any day! Talk about being able to juggle many spinning plates at one time!)
I mentioned on Facebook that I think a similar article could be written for being a working mom. No option is perfect. As many said, each woman needs to find the balance that works best for herself and her family. What that means for me so far, I don’t know. I do know that I don’t want to go back to a corporate office job where I have to sit in a cubicle all day, kid or not. But someday, financial reasons may require that that’s what I do for my family. Being a mom has its highs and lows. Financial responsibility is one of them.
Speaking of financial responsibility… and things ladies love…
It’s Contest Time!!!
Last Thursday’s post was my 300th post here on the blog which I think makes it time for a contest. Given the topic of the post, I think a $30 Target gift card would be totally appropriate. I know the folks that read this blog go there once or twice a week (or day, whatever… 🙂 ).
To enter the contest, you have two options:
1. Leave a comment on this post listing what’s your favorite thing to buy at Target. As for me, I can’t get enough of the Simply Balanced Fruit Strips and the JR Watkins hand lotions and cleaning supplies. I purchase at least one of each every time I go.
2. Subscribe to the blog to receive the posts right in your inbox. (***This option will put your name in the bucket twice and I have another prize coming out to all subscribers later this month. Don’t miss out!) If you’re already a subscriber, leave your comment and I’ll enter you for three changes to win.
The contest will close at 5 pm Central on Friday, April 11th. I’ll be doing this the old-fashioned way, picking a name (or email as the case may be) out of a hat. Afterwards, I will ask the winner for an address. Yah, mail! Who doesn’t like getting not-a-bill mail?!
Essie nail polish. I was so against spending $8 on such a dumb thing, but then I caved and bought one and used it and the polish was nearly chip-resistant for a week or more. Also, Cherokee camisoles from the girl’s department – they’re half the price of the ladies’ department, have built-in shelf bras, and go up to size XL so they totes fit. I have at least 40 of them. I wear one every day.
Michelle! You just blew my mind. And perhaps my budget. I’ll have to check out the camis next time I’m in. I can’t get enough, so bonus if they are cheaper!! Thanks for sharing.
Clothing for the girls, baby wipes, cleaning supplies. You name, I go grab it at Target!
Since Eggroll came around I haven’t been able to get out of the store without a new outfit for her. That department is dangerous!
You sucked me in as soon as I saw target gift card;) I buy at least one swim suit from here every season. I’m also a big fan of their baby section now:) Especially when stuff is on clearance… I got Vada some adorable leggings for $3 a piece!
Ah, yes… Clearance. Where you still spend too much money, but you go home with so much more. 🙂
I’m a sucker for “Buy two *insert random slightly useful products here* get a FREE $5 Target gift card”. I thought a good idea would be to save all those $5 gift cards for those pesky December purchases, but too many times do I find myself shopping just before lunchtime with my p.m Kindergartener so we grab a pizza to share with said $5 gift card, and off he goes to school… Ah, good intentions…
How have I missed this coupon? I guess I need to buy two things more often!
I love scoping out the clearance aisle-ends in the office/homegoods section – picking up a package of beautiful file folders or lovely notebooks that I would normally not buy because they’re too expensive is the best!
Girlfriend, now you’re scaring me. You should see my office – full of pretty Target notebooks with only a page or two used. I can’t stop buying them! Have you checked out ? Also adorable.
Anything that’s a holiday decor…they get me every time!
Hey! Bethany, you just reminded me I have a whole box of Easter stuff in my basement. I suppose I should put that up before I check out Target’s selection, huh?
Everything! Target is so dangerous! I could spend a ton there but lately we’ve been purchasing groceries there as their prices are very reasonable.
Stacy, are there particular items that seem reasonable? I feel like it’s more expensive than a traditional grocery store, but still saves me the time and money if I’m there already. (I’ll definitely buy something else if I also go to the grocery…)
300 posts! Congrats. I like to scoop up massive containers of laundry detergent from Target. Especially since there is one less than a mile from my house. Of course by laundry detergent, I mean detergent AND about five new pieces of clothing that will be added to my laundry regimen. Because: Target.
Really?!? Even Meghan goes to Target? That makes me feel better. You don’t get much more non-local than Target, but… how can you not. Especially if it’s that close to home!
I buy pretty much anything non food related at Target. But my very favorite thing that can only be purchased at Target specifically is Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix. I rarely buy it because it’s evil, but it’s amazing. Otherwise all household supplies, Happy Yogis for J, love perusing the kids clothing clearance racks…I could just be in Target for hours.
Oh my gosh… That sounds delicious. I might have to investigate the next time I go in. If it’s trail mix, that means there’s some sort of nut, so it’s totally a protein healthy snack. 🙂
Blue Diamond Rosemary and Black Pepper almonds. It’s the only place I’ve fond them, and I can’t get enough!
Interesting. We’re trying to eat more non-peanut nuts. Might have to try these, too!
I can never resist checking out the magazines and usually end up walking out with at least one or two!
Oh gosh, me, too. What are your favorites, Sun? I need some new fitness/health ones. Which ones do you like, oh runner friend?
